My hardy Bonsai are putting on their finest before they get ready for the long hibernation in the garage for the Winter months. The tropical bonsai have been indoors since early September, but these little native trees are out on the deck until the temps stay consistently cooler.
My Zelkova is always beautiful this time of year...
Some, like my mini leafed Linden, have already dropped their leaves and have formed their buds for Spring already.
Others, like my Japanese Quince, dropped their leaves but gifted me with a few lovely blooms, quite unexpectedly!
Here is a closer look at the little blooms. They look like colorful paper flowers shivering in the chilly wind today...
And then there are my Japanese maples....some in training
And some that are little seedlings, plucked from the lawn of my friend Ron...Don't they look like little jewels?

I do love those Japanese Maples. I always thought they looked really neat in miniature. We have a lot of the grown-up ones in Brooklyn. Very popular - they look just gorgeous in the little front yard patches of the row houses. Just a perfect fit. You really have quite a selection of bonsais!
Hi CM, i love those maples too, especially in the Spring and Fall (my two favorite times of year)When i first started to collect bonsai, i wanted it all and started to buy whatever tickled my fancy. But thru trial and error, i have narrowed my hardy bonsai down to maples, quince, apple trees, and a very few evergreens. My favorites are the tropicals. Next Spring i have a lot of work to do, repotting everything! OIY!
The little blooms are so pretty... like one last effort to show off until spring!!
