My Walk Today- 11/5/12

It was obvious to me...Winter is here. We have had no snowfall yet, tho another Nor'easter is headed our way for the middle of the week. I started out on the walk early and about 15 minutes into it, i was very tempted to turn around and go back home...It was that cold. Tomorrow i start out wearing a hat and gloves.

The coming of November always used to make me feel a bit sad. All of the color and beauty of Nature has faded in these parts by now and everything is grey. But now that i am older, i can still appreciate the beauty all around me, even tho it is not as obvious. Little bits of color here and there...

the trails the animals take thru the woods are easier to spot
and the delicate lacy bare branches overhead are lovely to see
i love the color of the fallen leaves on the woodland floor..a beautiful rusty brown
and the lime green lace of the wild columbine leaves against the brown background...
the skies and trees were filled with cawing crows this morning, and heavy bodied geese were flocking low overhead. As Zinnie and i were heading back home there was a ruckus in the woods to our right. A tree was filled with crows, but just below that noisy group was the biggest black bird i have ever laid eyes on! He seemed to be sitting there watching us on the path. I slowed to a stop and went to reach into my pouch to grab my camera, when the great bird spread it's coal black wings and flapped away deep into the woods. A Raven! The biggest i have ever seen! And fairly close too! I will have to look up Raven and see what gifts he brings...

It is nice to see the little splashes of colour everywhere. The garden still has a few flowers.

Thank you my friends....You know, the day after i took these photos, all of the sweet little lime green columbine leaves withered and died. It is getting harder to find color out there....
