New Paintings

I finally broke out my new acrylic paints and started playing with them today. Before this i was strictly a watercolor girl, but i find that acrylics can be used much the same way as watercolor and give a more textural effect. These paintings, done on special paper, are a little more abstract than i normally paint, but i had so much fun painting them...
Used to be Sedona

Fall Into Summer

Wind Swept The Trees

I have been away from painting so long...I am going to try to do a painting at least once a week, if not more... My Mom and i have a Mother-Daughter show at The Paper Sparrow in December/January, and it is high time i get started!

I do love your paintings! I'm excited you're upping the output, LOL! A painting at least once a week, if not more is a good way of doing it. That's the same rule I made for myself to stock up on knitting. The acrylics are beautiful - I think you and I have a very similar sense of color. Not surprising. =)

Wow!! You can do acrylics, too?? You are amazing, Mare. I took art for 4 years and could never do much with anything but oils, but you can use anything and make it wonderful!!

I finally made it over here and just wanted to say that I really like them. They still have a lot of your watercolor style to them but they're very different at the same time. Nice colors.

Hi CM, thanks so much for your supportive comments. They really mean a lot. Especially when i am playing with a totally new medium! Yes, the "at least once a week" rule had to come into play or i would never get back to painting! I have my fingers going in so many different directions and yet i don't want to give up any of my projects. So i have got to get more disciplined....Thanks friend....

Hi Paula,
Well, you are one up on me! I can't do oil painting! Thanks Paula for your kind and supportive comments. They just make me want to keep on going! :)

Hi Kate,
Yep, it's still me and my style, but different at the same time. I really like the intensity of color i can get with these paints, and still be able to layer them like i enjoy doing with the watercolors. I think the two paintings based on trees are totally different for me. The subject is common, but the techniques are real different! It is the first time i've used plastic wrap as a painting tool for sure! ;)

Gorgeous colors. I can see a bit of a watercolor influence, but the effect is completely different, more deliberate or intentional somehow.

Mother-daughter show, your mother paints as well? No wonder Kate is so talented as well.

By the way, the first bracelet is my favorite, so genuinely beautiful.

Hi Murray,
Thanks for your much valued comments on the paintings. I've gotta get back in the studio and see if i can try some new techniques.I am itching to try some work with gel medium and do some collage too. My Mom is a wonderful watercolor artist. She has always been good at painting but several years ago we decided to take a watercolor class together and that got us going again. I hope to be as good as Mom someday...
