Blight...

THESE ARE PICTURES I JUST TOOK OF MY BELOVED TOMATO PLANTS...

Yes....it's late blight.... In a matter of a few days i went from picking fresh ripe, beautiful red tomatoes
to this...... This year had already been racing to the Finish Line for one of the most frustrating, disappointing and stressful of years in my recent history. This just adds another notch to the list.
I still have a few plants left. I am hoping the blight misses them as they are on different parts of my property, separated by my house.

On the bright side, i had already picked over 30 lovely tomatoes from these plants, and i know of some who never got a ripe piece of fruit before they were hit with the blight, so really i have no right to complain.

Hey! I still have some really nice basil! And there is always the Farmer's Market for fresh ripe tomatoes....

And there is always next year!

Strange! But you can do so much with Basil. I just made a walnut/almond/basil pesto. Chunky instead of oily, with a ton of garlic and some parmesan.

Tastes great on tomatoes! I hope the rest of them survive.

When life gets rough, the tough make pesto.

What a shame!
Our tomatoes have been doing awful this year. Now they have the end blossom rot. Guess I didn't add enough calcium to the soil. We usually have more than we can manage but, this year we will be lucky if we get a few decent ones. Ah, well...all part of the cycle of life in the garden.

I hope that you can take a deep breath of that beautiful basil and think good thoughts.

Much love

I have the nicest friends here...And a new friend to boot! Thanks Jaz, and i will stop by and visit your blog too! Laura, i definitely think pesto is in my near future!;) Crimsoncat, i am SO far behind on everything with all that has happened these last few weeks, but hope to catch up and will be visiting you too! Lola Nova i guess no matter what we did this Summer, we were fighting an uphill battle, with the blight brought here on certain plants, plus no sun and too much rain. The weatherman said that this past July was the wettest July on record EVER! Sounds like the mold and mildew festival! Oh well, there is always next year, right?

!!!! So That's What Was Wrong With My Tomatoes!!!! Blight!!
Thank you SO much for posting about this...I couldn't figure out what was wrong!! Is there a cure for this???

Hi Donna,
as far as i know, the only thing you can do is pull them up and dispose of them so it doesn't spread to other tomato plants...I actually pulled some blemish free green tomatoes off those very plants and tried to ripen them on my window sill, but the blight showed up on them even tho they were ok when i pulled them. Let's hope we don't have to deal with this again next Summer! Thanks for visiting my blog and posting!
