Visitor in the Shade Garden

I stepped out for a moment and was enjoying my morning coffee on the deck this morning, and brought my camera along to get some pictures of the shade garden's progress....

The statue of Mary that belonged to my Aunt Joey is now encircled with honeysuckle blooms. The hummingbirds just love this stuff!

And the columbine is still blooming in places

here's a closer view of the soft pink and cream flowers... But then i noticed some movement under the hosta along the border of the garden....

and out popped this little guy! He is a constant visitor to the shade garden bird feeders.

He does what he can to keep the seeds from piling up on the mulched garden floor back there. He certainly looks healthy enough with that beautiful glossy coat and those bright shiny eyes!
And look at him pack those seeds into the pouches in his cheeks! He reminds me of the little hamsters i used to have and love so much as a girl....

I love that these little ones can find food and security on my little piece of land here.

OMG, chipmunk!!! He is a robust little one, isn't he? They are around my home too, but very quick on their toes. Love your garden :) we hope to plant honeysuckle too, since the clematis is not faring so well.

have a great weekend!

Hi PengPeng! Thank you! Yup! I think i have a whole family of chippies, as that cannot possibly be the same fellow that eats and eats without stopping!!! Cute, aren't they?
When did you plant the clematis? Sometimes it takes a year or two to get established and bloom, but give it time...Clematis likes to have their roots in the shade and their vines in the full sun. The honeysuckle attracts butterflies and hummingbirds. I have both this variety and the wild type with yellow and cream colored blooms. The wild type flower is much more fragrant that this more colorful variety. Another vine that is fun is sweet peas! I planted a package of sweet peas along my side yard fence years ago and they have come back up every year, by re-seeding themselves! I love the old fashioned kind with the pink and blue and violet colored flowers. So pretty...You have a great weekend too my friend!

what a cute little guy! just make sure he doesn't start stashing the seeds in strange places later in the season... one winter I found birdseed inside my snowboots (inside my back porch!)- watching for him did keep my cats entertained, though. The honeysuckle is beautiful! are the flowers pink when it blooms?? (I wonder if it would do well in AZ??)

I love the Mary statue surrounded by Honeysuckle. It looks so peaceful there.

It would be fun to do a watercolor painting of that chipmunk! He's great.

Thank you Melissa!
Crimsoncat, we've already found little stashes of seed and even dry cat food, but not from the chippies...more like the mouse population around here!
Thank you Sunny! I already have a few shots of the little guy in my painting folder, just waiting to be painted!(that is, if i ever sit down and pick up a paint brush!)
