Don't do this at home...

While clearing an overgrown area near my compost barrels for the holiday party here, i discovered (the Hard Way) that we have poison ivy growing under the wild roses. Both arms are blistered to the shoulders, and i have some on one hand, a few blisters on my neck and face. It is amazing how much suffering is involved. I took this picture last night after the holiday party. I did a whole lot less hugging than i usually would and let others cook the meat on the grill (Thanks Jesse and Sandy) but still managed to have a great time with friends and family. The worst part is i can't pick up my Lola until this clears a bit. This too shall pass....

Oh my WORD! Dear sweet Mare, it looks like you are in dreadful pain from this. Poison ivy is soooo itchy and nasty. I had it in Iowa but I am very fortunate not to have it here in Nova Scotia. It is nowhere near as common here as it was further south. The rose bush out the front is the one from which the blooms in the bowl are taken - the last picture on my blog post. I think they have too many petals for a rugosa but not sure.

Hi Claire, thank Goodness you can bypass this poison ivy nonsense! The rash has gotten worse since the pic but i think this is as bad as it gets and it's only going to get better with time. I LOVE those roses of yours. The new ones don't smell like the old fashioned ones do....

*UGH*! My poor sweet Mare... that is the worst case of poison ivy I've ever seen!
Hope you heal quickly, friend- sending a big hug your way. (And for once I'm glad I'm hugging you from afar! *giggle*)

Thanks for the good wishes everybody...It's gotten worse since this post, and my doctor put me on antibiotics on Wednesday to ward off infection. This morning i rushed to the doctor's office in an allergic reaction to the antibiotics..My itchy rash now has an itchy rash, and there is nothing they can give me...It's official, i'm in Hell....Keep the good vibes coming..And Mike, no problem with the "French". I've said a lot worse these last few days. Patience is a virtue i have been working on in this lifetime...
