I'm still making the bread i started over a year ago with this
recipe . It truly is a sourdough bread now. Lola calls it "Gumma Bread" and eats a lot of it when she is here. And she loves to help me bake. We've recently started making cookies together with her favorite cookie cutters, and bought all kinds of "sprinkles" to top them with. And we are using some of the treasured cookie cutters that i got from my Grandmother Mary too...Some of them are very very old.
I hope all of these little things we do together stay with her as good memories and cherished traditions, just like the ones i have kept with me from my time with my Grandmother and my Family. I think we have a good start at it!

Mare- I think you ought to enlarge the first picture and frame it.... Lola's little hands in that bowl of dough is one of the sweetest things I've seen in a long time!!
I use many of my mother and grandmother's baking utensils and I always think of both of them when I do... such sweet memories.

Thank you Paula! I am planning to keep that picture...so sweet. There is something about putting our hands on things that were touched a long time ago by our loved ones. There is still a little bit of them there, along with those good memories...
WOW! That is a terrific photo! Love your header too, always. A really simply and beautiful painting. You're making me think I might look into watercolors since I didn't feel like oils were a great fit. LOL She's gonna remember making that bread for the rest of her life. Awesome.
Hi Phill! So good to hear from you! Thanks for your sweet compliments on the painting...Try watercolor! It is my absolute favorite painting medium. And contrary to popular belief, it is very versatile. Use less water and the paint is very thick...more water and it is thin, filmy layers of color. I spatter it, blow it out of straws(a trick i learned while teaching day care! ;)run it, bleed it, add salt to it to make the color concentration "pucker" (you can see the effect of using salt in the painting in the header in the bottom half/grey grass)You name it! I mainly use cake watercolors in tray form but also use it from the tubes too. And Mom uses watercolor pencils all the time. There are even watercolor crayons to play with! NOT your Grandmothers watercolors any more!
