I need to get to a greenhouse and buy some pansies this year. That is one of the garden plants that reminds me of my Grandmother Mary the most...She had the old fashioned yellow ones with the root beer colored faces. Every time i see those little flowers i think of her. Also i need some lily of the valley..My daughter Katie is going to let me have some of hers. She got them from my Mother's garden. The ones i had here were lost in the construction....so i am glad to have a few plants from Mom's original gardens.... I lost my old lilac bush when the garage was being built...So i just ordered some old fashioned lilacs from conservation office to be picked up on Saturday. It will take a while for the lilac seedlings to be big enough to bloom, but until then i will just have to go around the neighborhood sniffing everyone else's lilacs!

What a beautiful painting! Pansies remind me of my mother, I used to pretend they were little flower people when I was a kid. Geraniums remind me of my grandfather, he is 99 and still tends to his 'Martha Washingtons' in his little garden.
Our Lilacs are blooming, I just cut a big bunch for the table. I am determined to plant a few more flowers this year. Delphinium, Black Eyed Susan and some yarrow to replace some we lost.
Ah, flowers!
hi mare!
oh i LOVE this painting!
my grandma had lilly of the valley too! i always think of her when i see them.
thank you for this beautiful post. it made me smile!
I love pansies! Beautiful painting!
Well, it's about time we see some more of your wonderful watercolors, Mare!! LOL
This one is sooo gorgeous. I love the colors.
Oh, Mare. I feel like I only get here once every two years nowadays. The new painting is just beautiful. Terrific flower choices! I suspect our day lilies will be coming out soon up north ... to bad I have to dig them up and move them! LOL
Thanks everybody for the sweet comments. I love hearing from all my blog friends!
LolaNova, your experiences remind me so much of my own. My Gram used to show me the "faces" on the pansies and told me they were special because they were the only flowers to have faces. And i'll never forget the first time my Gram saw Martha Washington geraniums. It was love at first sight...This year i am doing a lot of the same as far as replacing what we've lost in our gardens. it feels good to have those old plant favorites around us again.
Melissa, those memories are so deep and sweet, arent they? My Mom wears lily of the valley perfume sometimes...
Thank you Kelli and Paula! That means a lot to me!
